Hornet Pride at the High School
Hornet Pride is a change in school culture - one that ultimately fosters academic and behavioral growth, prepares students for post academic success, and creates a more positive environment in which to work and learn.
In keeping with the philosophy of Hornet Pride, Harvard High School has many activities that reinforce our credo.

Quarterly Mini Assemblies
One of the most important components of Hornet Pride is teaching our students what positive and respectful behavior actually looks like. To this end, we have been dividing the students into their respective classes and holding assemblies to teach a specific targeted behavior. For example, in the 2013-2014 school year, students have learned both about respectful language and respectful use of electronics within the school building.
School Wide Challenge
After a specific behavior is taught, students are asked to demonstrate their knowledge of what they have learned through an all-school challenge. This year, students participated in the 12/12 Challenge. The Goal of this challenge was to dramatically reduce the incidents of disrespect cited within the school. What were the results? It was a dramatic success! Students surpassed the goal and were given ice cream sandwiches as a reward.
My Class Shows Hornet Pride
When a Harvard High School teacher wants to recognize any of his or her classes for a specific accomplishment related to respect, responsibility or safety, he or she completes and submits a “My Class Shows Hornet Pride” certificate. Examples include having no tardies for one week, everyone turning in their homework and behaving well for a substitute teacher. Each class that is nominated is posted on the bulletin board by the front entrance, and the nomination includes the specific reason for the recognition. In addition, each nominated class is placed in a monthly raffle with a chance to win either donuts or pizza.
Harvey Hundreds
Harvard High School staff hand out Harvey Hundreds in order to acknowledge students who display examples of respectful, responsible and safe behavior. The idea is to reinforce respect, strengthen positive behaviors, improve school climate and create positive interactions and rapport with our students. Of utmost importance is that the staff member let the student know specifically why he or she earned the Harvey Hundred. Students can redeem Harvey Hundreds for items available in the School Store.
School Store
The School Store is available twice a week after school, as well as when special items are donated for student purchase. Items available include pencils, pens, notebooks and other various school supplies, foam mini-footballs, T-shirts featuring Harvard High school sports teams and tickets to a high school production. Students can pay for items with real money or Harvey Hundreds.
